A laboratory technician prepares COVID-19 patient samples for semi-automatic testing at Northwell Health Labs, Wednesday, March 11, 2020, in Lake Success, N.Y. The US Food and Drug Administration has approved faster testing protocols as the viral outbreak continues to spread worldwide. For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms. For some it can cause more severe illness

Numerous countries have closed their borders and introduced severe quarantine measures to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, and now many nations are trying to produce more ventilators to help those infected who can’t breathe due to the disease.

The global pandemic continues to spread, with the death toll nearing 65,000 worldwide. The United States has the highest number of those infected – over 300,000, while Italy and Spain have confirmed the highest numbers of fatalities – 15,362 and 11,947 respectively. At the same time, Germany and France have surpassed China in confirmed cases, as Beijing reports a significant decrease in new infections across the country.
